Week 32

Welcome back everyone!  Did you have a good week? I hope so!

My week was pretty quiet... I've been sleeping a bit better lately. Mommy and Daddy have fun watching me on the baby monitor. As you can see... sometimes I can get into interesting positions when I fall asleep. Here I am with my legs up in the air.

 And yes, I'm actually asleep and was in this position for about an hour or two before I moved.











I also have a new laugh... do you want to hear it? 

Mommy and Daddy can't get enough of it. Daddy says it sounds like I'm plotting to conquer the world... :)


Here's another game I've learned to play. My Daddy hides, then I pop up my head. He then comes at me and I do my best to hide. It's very fun!

We also went to the LA Natural History Museum again this week.

Here we are at the new entrance where they have an enormous whale skeleton hanging overhead.

It really made me feel small.

We also got to see live newts, spiders, rats in the museum's new exhibits. It was all very fun but tiring! We'll visit again soon because Mommy and Daddy want me to go see the butterfly exhibit which was unfortunately sold out that day.

On Sunday, we had dinner with Grandpa and Grandma Waki as usual. I had alot of fun playing this game with Grandma Waki at the dinner table.

Another busy weekend!

I've become quite the hat model lately, haven't I? Here I am at Grandpa Kan's house modeling yet another look. Looks like I'm either ready for rain... or fishing... my parents can't tell...


I had fun this weekend doing quite a few little things. First on Saturday, we met with Grandma Kan for lunch at Mimi's Cafe. Mommy and Daddy tell me this is the first time they've been back there since having my baby shower before I was born! It was also the first time I've sat nicely in the high chair without needing to picked up (this, however, didn't happen again all weekend much to the chagrin of my parents.)

Later that day, we went to visit my Great Grandmother Matsumoto out in Covina. They were have a party out there called a Luau!

And here I am with Mommy, Grandma Waki, and Grandpa Waki. They had food, little tiki torches, hula dancers, and even a person named 'Elvis' singing at the party. I don't know who that is but he did some catchy songs. I had a great time! Mahalo for the invitation!

On Sunday, we went to Downtown Tokyo to help celebrate Nisei Week! This is an annual festival held in Los Angeles since 1934 which promotes Japanese and Japanese American heritage and traditions. It's actually recognized as one of the longest running ethnic festivals in the United States.

We got to see bonsai trees, and calligraphary writing, and some needlepoint art as well.

But more importantly, we got to see Uncle Calvin perform with his Taiko group, LA Matsuri Taiko!

And look! Auntie Althea came out to visit me as well! She's Mommy's roommate from college and a very good friend.

The last time she saw me was in San Diego and I was only a few months old.

She couldn't believe how big I'd gotten!


After the performance, we went to lunch with Auntie Althea. Towards the end, I wasn't too happy so we ended up going home a little early. Still... it was great seeing you Auntie! Hope to see you again soon!

That night, Grandparents Waki, Great Grandmother Matsumoto, my parents and I tried some Guatemalan/Salvadorian food at a new restaurant. They're known for their pupusas and make pretty much everything from scratch. Even their tortillas are super fresh!

Delicious!

Don't worry, Daddy was only letting me gnaw on it a little to ease my sore gums. I still haven't mastered the art of swallowing yet....













And finally, another milestone! This is what Mommy and Daddy caught me doing on camera... when I was supposed to be sleeping.

Yup! I can now get into a sitting position when I'm laying down. I only did it once or twice a week ago or so, but this weekend I've pretty much done it every night and in the morning, my parents always find me sitting up waiting for them.

Daddy lowered the mattress for me because now he's worried I'll climb out.

It's only a matter of time, Daddy........... only a matter of time.

Week 30!

I went shopping with Mommy and we tried on some hats. Here's another one.

This weekend we celebrated my Grandpa Waki's birthday! Even though it was his birthday, I still got a gift. How lucky am I?

And *SPLAT!*, here I am seconds later putting a handprint into Grandpa's cake....

I'm a fast one.... good thing Grandpa already blew out the candle. It was a pretty cake, but now I've made it a memorable one :)

Great Grandma Matsumoto also came out for a visit. She's funny because everytime I laugh, she laughs.

It's always a lot of fun!









Aside from the birthday celebration, it has been a pretty quiet week. I did learn a few new tricks though!

First, is a new game called , "Helmet-head". As you can see, I just love having this toy put on my head event hough it's not a hat.

I liked it so much , in fact, I don't even need Daddy to do it anymore because I figured out how to do it myself !

 


I also look through it to see the world from a new perspective...

I've also started to figure out how to drink through a straw. I'm not very good at it yet because when the water gets to me, I'm always surprised. But I'm better at getting water this way than I am with my sippy cup

mmmmm.... sourdough bread. I can't eat it yet of course, but I like gnawing on it.

It probably feels good on my gums.

And last but not least, here I am with the beginnings of a crawl. I still roll laterally more than actually scooting forward, but when I'm motivated enough I can inch forward every so slightly.

I'll be moving soon! Too soon for Mommy and Daddy's tastes but that'll be when the real fun starts and they'll need to start chasing me!

Week 29, A road trip!

Let's pick off where we left last week. As you know, I got a car-walker last week from Grandpa and Grandma Kan. What I didn't tell you was that I'm already using it to get some drive-thru!

Ah... this is the life. Cruising around and getting a meal at the same time!

Last week, I also had some visitors! Grand Uncles Clifford and Paul, and Grand Aunties May and Leona came over to see me. They were in town for a wedding but took some time to come over and visit.







But the BIG thing we did this week was take a road trip up to San Francisco!

First we stopped by Monterey Bay Aquarium. Mommy really wanted me to see the fish.

And here I am looking at the kelp forest with Daddy.

The aquarium didn't only have fish, they had some sea birds as well! Here I am making friends with one of them.

And here I am looking at some jellyfish.
















At the jellyfish exhibit, they had a fun kaleidoscope camera that Daddy had me dancing to.

I even got a chance to touch some starfish!

Hrm.... what is this Mommy put on me?

Oh I guess it's called a clownfish. I guess that's OK then....

 

 Here my parents put me in a big clamshell. I guess I was, as they say, "happy as a clam"

 After the aquarium, we continued to San Francisco where we stayed with Auntie Nathalie! When I saw her, I was quite giggly. She gave me this really fun inflatable toy which I play with every chance I get. Thank you Auntie Nathalie!

And finally,  the main reason we went up north was to celebrate my cousin Julia's first birthday!!! 

She was so nice and shared all her toys with me. Here I am enjoying a good book....

 And here she is trying to share her toy with me..... or is she trying to poke me with it? Either way, I didn't know what was going on anyway :)

He even showed us how to play in the bouncy house.... I can't wait until I can bounce around with him!

Still... Julia seems to be one of my favorites... I love reaching out to try to touch her.

Sometimes even eat her sweater....

I don't think she was very amused by me here...

We hope you had a wonderful 1st birthday, Cousin Julia! Happy birthday and we wish you many many many more! We all miss you very much already!

Wait, there's more? Yes! We also went to visit Daddy's friends Uncle Chris and Auntie Emily. Auntie Emily didn't get to hold me last time she visited me in LA because she was sick, but she was all better now and couldn't wait to give me a hug!

I also got to see Matthew again! We were a little more interactive this time. He kept pointing at me and saying "baby!"

His parents have been teaching him what that word means because he's going to be getting a baby brother soon. Around my birthday, in fact!

Short post, Week 28

 

*CHOMP!* I'm starting to get more and more drooly. Probably because my teeth are beginning to come in. Daddy can't feel the bumps just yet, but he can see the gums lightening up so they might be coming soon. Until then, I've been putting things in my mouth to gnaw on to help with the itching.

 Here's a picture that Mommy took of me when I was supposed to be napping. Apparently, I've learned how to hit the button to make the mobile start... this is Mommy catching me in the act.

She says I'm a sneaky one.

 This weekend was actually pretty quiet for me. Mommy and Daddy got invited to a wedding so Grandpa and Grandma Waki came over to take care of me. I really enjoyed my time with them though I had a little trouble going to sleep at night. Sorry! I'll try to do better next time.


Here I am enjoying the huge centerpiece that was brought back from the wedding. I like touching the flowers alot!

 I also got to meet Daddy's friend, Uncle Greg! I look a bit angry here, but I was squinting because of the sun.

I had a great time talking to Uncle Greg while they were eating. I guess I just wanted to be part of all the conversation.

Lastly, what is this?!

Well... Grandpa and Grandma Kan got me this cool walker car. Don't I look so cool in it? Uncle Jon put it together for me so I could play with it.

I don't know quite how to move around in it yet, but I sure like pressing the buttons!

I'll be zooming around in it before you know it.
