1 month old!

Hello everyone! I'm one month old today!

I've been growing bigger and bigger. Mommy and Daddy took me to get weighed at this place where they have a baby scale. I am now 9lbs, 10oz! Wow!

This week Daddy went back to work so Mommy and I got to spend some quality time together. Most days she has been encouraging me to do this thing called "tummy time". I guess she wants me to build my neck muscles or something...

I'm not sure if I like it just yet... most times I will cry. Other times, Mommy says I just hide my eyes and go to sleep. I'll get better at it though!








Here's a video of me getting my tummy massaged. When I like it, I make these cooing sounds.

Both sets of my grandparents have been coming to visit too! My Grandparents Waki came by on Tuesday and made an enchilada dinner for us. It smelled so delicious. I can't wait until I can try it myself!

Grandparents Kan have been coming almost everyday to help Mommy. She is so appreciative of the help. Often I play with them while she gets other things done. Yea-Yea is always snapping pictures. Here are a few with them!

Uncle Jon came by to visit too! He tells me he's training for a run that he's doing next week! It's called a color run or something... where they throw color on him as he runs. Even better it's going to be at Dodger Stadium.

I'm also starting to really love bath time. I guess I like being warm just like my Mom.

One of the best things this week was that I finally got to meet my Grand Uncle Paul, Grand Auntie Leona, and Grand Auntie Lin! They are always so busy but they took the first chance they got to come out to visit me. I wasn't in my best mood that day, but I was happy to see them. I hope we can see them again soon (I hear Grand Uncle Paul gives really fun horsie rides!)

But it didn't taste very good. Daddy said he'd put it aside for me later.

















Anyways, I hear my Cousin Elliot turned 3 years old this past Friday! Happy Birthday, Elliot!

OK, I'm tired, back to doing what I do best (during the day, that is...) Until next week!

Week 3- More visitors, More presents!

This week we started with a doctors visit for my 2 week checkup. I am now 8lbs 6oz, up over a pound from my discharge weight. That made Mommy very happy because that means all the hard-work she's been putting into feeding me has paid off. Good job Mom!

I'm in the 40th percentile for weight, and 55th percentile for length at 20 3/4inches. A head circumference of 36.9cm puts me in 78th percentile. What does all this mean? No idea... they are just numbers to use to get an extra paragraph and make this post seem longer.

Quick new-parent experience story: I haven't been sleeping very well at night and it's making Mommy and Daddy very tired. Apparently one night when I started crying, Daddy started sleep-singing me "Twinkle Twinkle" before falling back asleep after the first line. Daddy doesn't recall any of this but it made Mommy laugh alot. Also on a separate night, Daddy tried to burp Mommy as well...

OK on to me! One thing I didn't mention in the last post was that my grandparents have been coming out to visit me almost everyday! On Tuesday, Grandpa and Grandma Waki and Great Grandmother Matsumoto came out to visit me for dinner. I was asleep for most of the time but woke up in time to see everyone before they left.

Grandma Waki was really happy to be able change my diaper!

Also, Yea-yea and Ma-ma have been visiting me almost everyday! I love being held by them and they always sing songs for me.

 See the beautiful sweater I'm wearing? Ma-ma crocheted it for me. Doesn't it look like it was professionally done?!

On Saturday, I got a surprise visit from Uncle Mark and Auntie Mara and their son Tanner! Uncle and Auntie are expecting #2 and Tanner is going to be getting a little sister (congratulations!). I have alot of catching up to do to play with Tanner but I will try! He will be such a great big brother, he was trying to carry Mommy's diaper bag around. What a great helper!

On Sunday, Grand Uncle Sam, Grand Auntie Karen and Great Grandmother Matsumoto came by to visit me again! This time Grand Auntie got to carry me and I got a picture this time!

Daddy and Mommy tell me I've also been getting alot of presents coming in. I won't have a chance to show off all of them on the blog but thank you to everyone sending things to us. I will use them all! Here are a few I happened to get pictures with:

Grand Uncle Paul and Grand Auntie Leona gave me this beautiful jade Dragon pendant. I was born in the Year of Dragon and it fit me perfectly! Thank you!

Uncle Stephen and Auntie Anita got me this cool Radio Flyer wagon with goodies inside! (On a side note, Ma-ma also crocheted this sweater for me as well. At the rate I'm going, I'm sure I'll fit it soon!)










And Uncle Ryan and Auntie Sabrina gave me a Bumbo chair. I'm already working out my neck muscles a little!

 

Lastly, Mommy and Daddy have noticed flashes of a smile but haven't been able to catch it with a camera. Luckily Yea-yea always has his camera around and got a shot of one of my first smiles! Hope it brings a smile to your face too!

 

The first two weeks!

Hello everyone! My name is Joshua Kenichi Ga Wing Kan.

I was born @ 7lbs 13oz which was very big for mommy. Look at my poor head after mommy tried pushing me out! No worries, my head returned to its cute round shape very quickly.

Here I am all nice and clean. Much happier! My eyes were already open and eager to take in the world! Here I am in dad's arms as we were waiting for mommy to join us. We didn't have to wait long and soon we were able to spend our first moments as a brand new family.

 



Speaking of family, I didn't know it, but I had even more family waiting outside to meet me! Daddy tells me they waited all day and night to see me for the first time. I was sleeping when I was finally rolled out to to see them but they were really excited to see me! These are my two grandmothers, grandfather, aunt and uncle. My other grandfather was taking the picture (more on this later).

Like I mentioned, my dad says my Grandfather (Yea-Yea) Kan loves to take pictures so he's always behind the camera. However, he is now getting in front of the camera as well. Mom and Dad tells me this is extremely rare and a sign that he is extremely excited to have a grandchild.

 I also had other visitors that couldn't wait to meet me, so they came to say hi at the hospital.
This is my Great-grandmother Matsumoto. She was so happy to see me. This was the only picture that we got where she was looking at the camera and not me! She couldn't take her eyes off me.

My Great-grandmother Kan and Great Aunties YK and Christina came to visit me as well. They couldn't keep their eyes off me as well as this is one of the rare pictures everyone is looking at the camera! I'm happy that I could bring such smiles to their faces, just for being me!

Here is our first family picture which also happened to be the day Mommy and I were discharged! People say that Mommy and I look beautiful and that Daddy looked tired. Well Daddy was all smiles that day because he wouldn't need to sleep on the hospital couch anymore!

Mom and Dad say what I'm wearing is actually very important. It is a Green Silk gown that has been passed down for several generations on the Waki-side of the family. It was worn by my grandfather when he was discharged from the hospital, as well as his sister and brother (my Grandaunt Amy and Granduncle David) . It was also worn by all of mom's cousins and sister. She even wore it herself when she was a newborn! What a tradition! I'm happy to be able to continue it.

So once I got home I had even MORE visitors! Dad tells me my Uncle Brian and brand-new Aunt Mary got married this weekend and people were nice enough to make a detour just to see me! Aren't I special?! Most everyone is from Hong Kong or other parts of the US. I was honored they took the time to come by and visit me!

 This is my Auntie Nathalie. Isn't she beautiful? I don't have a picture with her because she wasn't feeling too well so she was keeping her distance from me... either that or I had a poopy diaper. Mommy says Daddy was a dummy for forgetting to say she visited me too when we first posted. She is right, Dad is a dummy! Auntie please promise to get some pictures with me next time!!













Phew! My Grandaunt Karen also came by to visit but I didn't get a picture with her this time because she felt a cold coming on and wanted to be extra careful. We'll make sure to get a picture next time! Get well soon!

So you can see my first couple weeks have been filled with excitement and love already. Before I go, here are a few pictures that my parents wanted to share with you. They tell me we only have God to thank for all these precious moments. Praise Him for giving me such a loving family! Dad and mom tell me that even with everyone I've met so far, it's only the tip of the iceberg of MORE family I'm going to be meeting in the near future!
